How Do You Wake Up?

I have a very annoying little alarm clock that wakes me up by putting his tiny fingers in my eyes and pulling my eyelids apart. If I happen to close my eyes again and doze off, he will find things under and around my bed to stick in my mouth, like a pricetag from a new shirt, or a penny. The alarm clock then starts whining for breakfast and for me to "Get up, Moooom!" Gee, you'd think I was sleeping in late or something, but this alarm clock always goes off at 6:45 am.

Noah. Gotta love him.

Now I'm over this kind of wake up routine, utterly ready for it to stop. It puts me in a grumpy mood from the moment my eyes are pried open. So who's responsible? I am. I'm in charge, or should be. So I've decided that instead of whining like my 3 year old, I'm going to change the situation. Maybe I could go to bed earlier, get up at 6, put on some coffee, and have a little quiet time before my kids get up so I would be awake and happy to see them (best scenario). Or I could just tell Noah what is expected of him when he wakes me up (ask nicely, no poking) and correct him when he diobeys. Either way, I am being proactive and not letting my kids get away with annoying or rude behaviors. Parents need to learn to act, not complain.

  1. That's right! You go Mommy! I always like the getting up earlier, but really I am a night person and this takes SO much effort. I feel better when I do it, but I have to make myself. I usually just end up with Jonathan and Bethany serving bkfast and I "arrive" in a little while. I do give lots of "support" from the bedside though, you know, opening cereal boxes, taking the seal off the new milk container, giving kisses and managing a "good morning" with a smile, etc. :)
